Olive oil is an excellent anti-aging, emollient and soothing agent, perfect for mature skin, dry and dehydrated skin, to calm skin irritations and to revitalize damaged hair. Well tolerated even by the most sensitive skin and baby’s skin and also suitable during pregnancy, olive oil can be used by everyone.

Cosmetic properties of olive oil

The olive oil, precious in the kitchen, also has numerous cosmetic properties and is perhaps the cosmetic choice with the least environmental impact, since it is an oil produced in virtually all of our peninsula. Olive oil is the vegetable oil extracted from the pulp of olives.
All of us use in the kitchen and know the benefits of olive oil : rich in fatty acids, phytosterols, squalene and vitamin E, it is in fact an excellent oil for food.

From a cosmetic point of view, olive oil is a “zero kilometer” product that boasts properties similar to avocado oil or argan oil.

Thanks to its composition, olive oil has strong antioxidant properties and is able to prevent the effects of skin aging such as wrinkles, loss of tone and elasticity of the skin and dark spots.

Olive oil is also ideal for treating dry and dehydrated skin as it has a marked emollient action and counteracts the loss of water from the epidermis, keeping it hydrated and soft. Thanks to its soothing and repairing action, olive oil is also excellent for chapped skin or to calm irritations, inflammations, redness and dermatitis and is well tolerated even by the most sensitive skin.

Olive oil can be used safely even during pregnancy, lactation or skin care of newborns and children.

Olive oil is used pure, mixed with other oils or vegetable butters or with the addition of essential oils.

10 cosmetic uses of olive oil

1) Effective against stretch marks during pregnancy

Used from the early months of pregnancy, olive oil effectively prevents the formation of stretch marks during pregnancy. Massage pure olive oil two or three times a day. Insist on the critical areas: thighs, buttocks, belly, breasts and the inside of the arms. Start using olive oil before pregnancy, if possible, or from the first month of gestation and continue treatment even while breastfeeding.

2) Rejuvenating treatment with olive oil

A skin rejuvenating treatment is prepared with 50 grams of rhassoul powder, 35 milliliters of olive oil and a teaspoon of turmeric. Mix the ingredients together until you obtain a smooth, homogeneous and thick cream. Apply to wet skin, under the shower and leave for ten minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water, massaging the body. No need to use bubble bath or apply creams after rinsing. Repeat the treatment once or twice a week for a smooth, soft and supple skin.

3) After-sun wrap for hair

A pack after sun for the hair is prepared with 30 milliliters of olive oil, 20 milliliters of jojoba oil and 50 drops of essential oil with rosemary. When returning from the beach, spread over damp hair, leave in place for at least half an hour and then wash the hair very well with the shampoo to remove oil residues.

4) For soft hands and strong nails

To have soft hands and strong nails vigorously mix a teaspoon of lemon juice with a tablespoon of olive oil. It will form an emulsion that will remain united for one or two minutes before the oil and lemon juice separate again: apply immediately on the hands and let it act for at least half an hour. Rinse with water and a mild soap. Repeat the treatment two or three times a week to prevent aging of the skin on your hands and the formation of dark spots.

5) Anti-wrinkle mask with olive oil

An anti-wrinkle mask for impure skin can be made by mixing a teaspoon of olive oil with a tablespoon of white clay. Mix the two ingredients well and add a drop of lavender essential oil. Apply a thin layer of mask over the entire face with the exception of the eye contour and rinse with warm water after ten minutes. Use this purifying and anti-aging mask once or twice a week.

6) Olive oil against diaper redness

To soothe diaper rashes or other skin irritations of children and newborns, gently massage a few drops of olive oil onto the affected areas, two or more times a day.

7) Massage butter for dry skin

A massage butter for very dry skin is obtained by mixing 10 milliliters of olive oil with 40 grams of shea butter, 10 drops of lavender essential oil and 5 drops of geranium essential oil. Soften the shea butter by working with a spatula or a fork. Add the olive oil and essential oils and mix well. Pour into a clean, dry jar and store away from light and heat for up to three months. Use the product on heels, elbows and on all particularly dry or chapped areas of the body.

8) Soothing and anti-inflammatory of the skin

To soothe sensitive, irritated or inflamed skin, massage a few drops of olive oil twice a day on reddened areas. For an even more calming effect, add a drop of lavender essential oil to each tablespoon of olive oil.

9) An effective natural anti-wrinkle

Olive oil is an effective anti-wrinkle for the face and the eye contour : it takes just a few drops to massage on the face in the evening, before going to sleep.

10) Face and body scrub for a young and soft skin

For a soft, smooth and young skin, make a delicate facial and body scrub by mixing 5 tablespoons of coconut flour, a teaspoon of brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of olive oil and 3 tablespoons of sunflower oil. Massage to damp skin and rinse with soap and water.
